The Message for New Generations

I'm currently studying the first five books of the Bible. One theme I am learning about is that new generations of people have to hear God's story in different ways. The example is that Deuteronomy basically covers the content that was in Exodus, just in a different way to a new generation of people.

This topic can be a controversial subject. Many Christians believe that God doesn't speak to us anymore, and that we will learn all we need to know about God through timeless, unchanging Scriptures. Public readings of the King James version of the Bible are in order. Other Christians, of the more liberal lens, deconstruct and speak so many cultural and generational insights into Scriptures that one can hardly tell what is the gospel message and what is pop culture.

What do you think? Do different generations of people need to enter into God's story in different ways? If so, how is that done effectively in our modern culture?

I don't think different generations need to enter into God's story different ways - they can't. "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." The heart of man has, sadly, been the same from the beginning, i.e. inherently sinful, and that hasn't and isn't going to change. However, I do believe people can enter from different directions, though - from poverty, from wealth, from illiterate, from educated, etc. so that although the Story is the same, maybe the Introduction has to be tailored to the individual. Make sense?

I agree with John. I do not believe different generations need to hear God's story differently b/c he is the same today, tomorrow, and forever. It's all the same story and we are all created in his image so therefore I believe we can all hear it the same way, if that's the way He wants us to hear it. Now, that being said I do believe God uses different avenues and methods to gain our interest and want to hear more and learn more about Him. After all, Jesus told us He had to go back up to heaven so that he could send the Counselor. As long as we have this Counselor, the Holy Spirit, we are better off than when the spirit was not with us. It's through this that every generation can learn the story and Yes, even in the same ways.
